Youth in Haiti Leaders in Reconstruction Effort

Naba Gurung, PWRDF's Humanitarian Response Coordinator is currently visiting Haiti to learn about the work PWRDF is sponsoring in the recovery effort from the 7.0 magnitude quake that devastated the nation on January 12. He is also exploring new opportunities for PWRDF to partner with local organizations for ongoing recovery and development projects. Here is his story of his visit with youth leaders in the village of Masson.

We visited the village of Masson where we were welcomed by the leaders of the local youth group. Working with the Christian Reform World Relief Committee (a partner PWRDF is working with in Haiti through the Action by Churches Together (ACT) Alliance,) the youth took charge of doing a door to door survey for the initial assessment of damages and needs. We met with affected families who are living under tents and tarpaulins (distributed by CRWRC/ACT) in the local soccer field. With many concrete houses and schools down, the removal of rubble appears to be a big challenge, for which CRWRC/ACT has provided tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels and hammers to the people in Masson.

Host a Dinner, Save the World!

How can having dinner help to address issues of poverty, peace, and the environment?

In June of this year, the leaders of the G8 and G20 (the G8 is the Group of 8: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the US, Russia, and Japan; the Group of 20 is a gathering of finance ministers and central bankers from 20 economies) will be gathering in Huntsville and Toronto, Ontario.

PWRDF is encouraging Anglicans across Canada to host an interfaith dinner, meal, or reception in your home communities, and to invite your Member of Parliament to attend that event.
